Energy Efficient & Green Building Materials Green Builder -Solar System Sacramento Low-E Windows, Blown Cellulose, Skylights

Our Favorite Green Building Materials

We gather the best green building materials from all over the Sacramento region and Northern California for use in our homes.   We can also install the materials below for your existing home.  Here are a few of our favorites:

Solar Electric System
Photovoltaic panels are a clean and renewable energy source that save our homeowners money and protect the environment at the same time.

Low-E Windows
SMUD’s Home of the Future uses only Energy Star SM -qualifying, double-pane, low-e, vinyl windows. Low-e (low emissivity) glass has a special metal oxide film coating that reflects long-wave heat energy, while passing shorter-wave, visible light. In the winter, long-wave radiant heat is reflected back into the house. In summer, outside heat energy is reflected away from the house.

Blown Cellulose
Made from old newspaper and other recycled paper products, blown cellulose produces an insulating value (or R value) that’s 25% greater than that of fiberglass. And when we combine it with the other elements of our advanced air-sealing system (such as 2 x 6 exterior wall studs), the R value goes even higher.

Skylights and Daylighting
Skylights and sun tunnels help bring the outdoors in. Daylighting takes advantage of the natural daylight, making homes more energy efficient and more pleasant.

Energy Star SM Lighting
All exterior and interior lighting fixtures feature the latest in energy-efficient fixtures. We love LED lighting and CFL’s (Compact Fluorescent Lighting).

Energy Star SM Appliances
RJ Walter Homes uses energy star products whenever possible. The Energy Star SM label indicates 90% efficiency or better—which means that all appliances are about 15% more efficient than standard models.

Low VOC Paints
Standard household paint releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, creating a potential health risk. In fact, 9% of the airborne pollutants creating ground level ozone come from VOCs in paints. That's why we use low-VOC products for our paints and many of its other finishes and adhesives.

Structurally Engineered Lumber
These manufactured products save our old-growth forests and protect valuable habitat. This kind of lumber employs laminated wood chips or strands in the production of framing components. It's stronger and straighter than traditional, solid-sawn lumber.

Water-Efficient Fixtures
Water saving fixture designs result in a 30% water savings throughout the home. We use 1.8 gallon faucets and shower heads and 1.3 gallon flush toilets reducing overall flow rates.
